Carcassonne is the largest and most spectacular medieval walled city in Europe, a UNESCO World Heritage fortress crowned by a double ring of ramparts and towers rising above the countryside of the south of France. Walking its lanes is like stepping into the Middle Ages. On this walking tour a local guide reveals its history.
You will enter through the great gate, wander the medieval lanes of La Cité, and walk beside the mighty double walls. Along the way you will hear about the Cathars, the sieges and the famous restoration. Spectacular and historic, Carcassonne is a wonderful city to explore on foot.

Stop 4 – The Basilica of Saints Nazaire and Celse: The Gothic church of La Cité.
Stop 5 – The double ramparts: The mighty inner and outer walls.
Stop 6 – The lists (between the walls): The open ground between the ramparts.
Stop 7 – Rampart viewpoint: We finish with views over the walls and countryside.
