Its UNESCO-listed old town of Al-Balad, with its towering coral-stone houses and beautiful carved wooden balconies, is one of the most atmospheric places in Arabia. On this walking tour a local guide reveals its heritage.
You will wander the lanes of Al-Balad, admire the ornate merchant houses, and explore historic markets and mosques. Along the way you will hear about the pilgrim trade, the coral architecture and the Red Sea culture. Atmospheric and historic, Jeddah is a wonderful city to explore on foot.

Stop 1 – Bab Makkah: We meet at the historic gate toward Mecca.\nStop 2 – The coral-house lanes: The towering merchant houses of Al-Balad.\nStop 3 – The carved balconies (roshan): The beautiful wooden window screens.\nStop 4 – Naseef House: The grand historic merchant mansion (from outside).\nStop 5 – The old souks: The traditional markets of the old town.\nStop 6 – A historic mosque: One of the oldest mosques of the port.\nStop 7 – Old town viewpoint: We finish with the story of the gateway to Mecca.
