Lima, the 'City of Kings', was the jewel of Spain's South American empire and remains one of the continent's great historic capitals. Its UNESCO-listed old town is a treasure of colonial palaces, carved wooden balconies and baroque churches, while its kitchens have made it the gastronomic capital of Latin America. On this walking tour a local guide brings both together.
You will stand in the grand Plaza Mayor, admire the cathedral and the presidential palace, and wander streets lined with ornate Moorish-style balconies. Along the way you will hear the story of viceroys, saints and revolutionaries, and why Peruvian cuisine has conquered the world. Historic and delicious, Lima is a wonderful city to explore on foot.

Stop 1 – Plaza Mayor: We meet on the grand main square, birthplace of colonial Lima.\nStop 2 – Lima Cathedral: The great cathedral holding the tomb of conquistador Francisco Pizarro.\nStop 3 – Government Palace: The presidential palace and its changing of the guard.\nStop 4 – The balcony streets: The famous carved wooden balconies of the old town.\nStop 5 – Church & Convent of Santo Domingo: One of the city's most important colonial churches.\nStop 6 – Plaza San Martín: The elegant square honouring the liberator of Peru.\nStop 7 – Jirón de la Unión: We finish on the lively pedestrian street with tips on Peruvian food.
