Tour description
Porto is the granite-and-tile soul of northern Portugal, a city that tumbles down steep hillsides to the Douro river and gave its name to both the country and its famous fortified wine. On this walking tour a local guide leads you through a UNESCO-listed old town of narrow lanes, baroque churches and dazzling blue azulejo tiles.
You will wander the atmospheric Ribeira riverfront, admire tile-covered facades and grand railway stations, and hear the story of the port-wine trade that made the city rich. Authentic, characterful and wonderfully walkable, Porto rewards the curious traveller at every steep and winding turn.
