Tour description

Stone Town, the old heart of Zanzibar City, is one of the most atmospheric places in Africa: a UNESCO-listed maze of coral-stone lanes where African, Arab, Indian and European cultures have blended over centuries of spice and, tragically, slave trading. On this walking tour a local guide leads you through its winding streets and layered history.

You will admire the famous carved wooden doors, wander markets fragrant with spices, and hear about sultans, explorers and the island's difficult past. Along the way you will discover the birthplace of a famous musician and the roots of Swahili culture. Exotic and evocative, Stone Town is a wonderful place to explore on foot.
Meeting point:

Forodhani Gardens, Stone Town waterfront, Zanzibar
