Bern is the graceful capital of Switzerland, a UNESCO World Heritage city whose medieval old town of covered arcades, fountains and sandstone facades curls within a bend of the Aare river. Home to a famous astronomical clock, it is one of Europe's best-preserved medieval centres. On this walking tour a local guide reveals its charm.\n\nYou will watch the figures of the Zytglogge clock, stroll six kilometres of arcades, and hear about the bears that gave the city its name and Einstein's years here. Along the way you will take in views over the river. Charming and historic, Bern is a wonderful city to explore on foot.

Stop 1 – Zytglogge Clock Tower: We meet before the famous astronomical clock.\nStop 2 – The arcaded streets: The six kilometres of covered medieval walkways.\nStop 3 – The old fountains: The colourful Renaissance fountains of the old town.\nStop 4 – Einstein's House quarter: The neighbourhood where Einstein lived.\nStop 5 – The Bern Minster: The great Gothic cathedral (from the terrace).\nStop 6 – The Bear Park approach: The bears that gave the city its name.\nStop 7 – Riverside viewpoint: We finish with views over the Aare and old town.
