Once a favourite seat of the Habsburg emperors, its compact old town is packed with colourful facades, arcaded lanes and imperial monuments. On this walking tour a local guide shares its rich history and mountain spirit.\n\nYou will admire the famous Golden Roof, wander beneath medieval arcades, and hear about the emperors, miners and mountaineers who shaped the city. With snow-capped peaks rising at the end of every street, Innsbruck offers a walk unlike any other in the Alps.

Stop 1 – Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl): We meet beneath the glittering imperial balcony.\nStop 2 – Old Town arcades: The colourful medieval lanes at the heart of Innsbruck.\nStop 3 – City Tower (Stadtturm): The medieval watchtower over the old town.\nStop 4 – Cathedral of St. James: The baroque cathedral with its twin towers.\nStop 5 – Hofburg & Hofkirche: The imperial palace and the church of Emperor Maximilian.\nStop 6 – Maria-Theresien-Straße: The grand avenue with its triumphal arch and Alpine views.\nStop 7 – Inn riverside: We finish beside the river with the famous row of pastel houses and the mountains beyond.
