Tour description

Khiva is the most perfectly preserved Silk Road city in the world, a walled desert town whose entire old centre, the Itchan Kala, is a UNESCO World Heritage site that feels like an open-air museum. Once a notorious slave-trading khanate, today its turquoise-tiled minarets and mud-brick lanes are utterly enchanting. On this walking tour a local guide reveals its legends.

You will pass through the great gates in the city walls, marvel at the stumpy turquoise Kalta Minor minaret, and wander lanes of madrasas and palaces. Along the way you will hear tales of khans, caravans and the fearsome desert crossings. Magical and compact, Khiva is a wonderful city to explore on foot.
