Valletta is one of the most remarkable capital cities in Europe, a compact fortress city built by the Knights of Malta from golden limestone and packed with baroque palaces and churches. A UNESCO World Heritage site set on a peninsula between two harbours, it is a living monument. On this walking tour a local guide reveals its history and beauty.\n\nYou will enter through the modern City Gate, wander grid-straight streets of golden stone, and take in views over the magnificent Grand Harbour. Along the way you will hear about the Knights, the Great Siege and Malta's crossroads history. Compact and stunning, Valletta is a wonderful city to explore on foot.

Stop 1 – City Gate & Republic Street: We meet at the entrance to the fortress city.\nStop 2 – The baroque streets: The golden-stone lanes of the Knights.\nStop 3 – St. John's Co-Cathedral: The dazzling baroque cathedral (from the square).\nStop 4 – The Grand Master's Palace: The seat of the Knights of Malta.\nStop 5 – Upper Barrakka Gardens: The terrace with views over the Grand Harbour.\nStop 6 – The auberges & fortifications: The inns of the Knights and the city walls.\nStop 7 – Harbour viewpoint: We finish overlooking the magnificent Grand Harbour.
