Tour description
Located just about 15 km north of Pakse, Ban Saphai Village has a long tradition of silk weaving. Beneath the stilt houses, village women sit at wooden looms weaving sinh skirts, scarves, and fabrics with distinctive patterns from southern Laos. You will see the processes from spinning and dyeing to weaving, and can purchase products directly from the artisans who make them.
From the village pier, a wooden boat takes you across the Mekong River to Don Kho Island – a peaceful island with several villages, rice fields, vegetable gardens, and an ancient temple. Legend has it that a Thai king once stopped on the island while traveling along the Mekong River. You will walk or cycle around the island, visit the temple, see local people weaving fabric, and have a Lao lunch in a local home.

Detailed itinerary
Morning (08:30): The vehicle and guide pick you up at the hotel and depart for Ban Saphai (approximately 30 minutes).
09:00: Visit silk-weaving families and observe the processes of spinning, dyeing, and weaving.
10:30: Take a wooden boat across the Mekong River to Don Kho Island (approximately 15 minutes). Walk or cycle around the island and visit the village temple.
Lunch (12:00): Enjoy a Lao lunch at a local home on the island.
Afternoon (13:30): Free time to relax and chat with local residents; the boat takes you back to the mainland.
14:45: The vehicle takes you back to Pakse. 15:30: End of the tour.

Free cancellation with a 100% refund when notified at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellations made within 24 hours of departure are non-refundable. In the event of bad weather or attraction closures required by the authorities, we can help reschedule the tour or provide a full refund.

Dress code: when entering temples, the Royal Palace, and historical sites, please wear clothing that covers the shoulders and trousers or skirts below the knees, and remove your shoes before entering the main sanctuary.
Currency: the Kip (LAK) is the official currency; many places accept USD and Thai Baht, but it is advisable to exchange some Kip for spending at markets, small eateries, and in rural areas.
The tour is normally led by an English-speaking local guide; Vietnamese-, French-, Chinese-, or Thai-speaking guides can be requested (please inform us when booking, subject to guide availability).
