Tour description
Si Phan Don is a kayaking paradise, with wide stretches of water, small channels between islands, and trees growing right in the river. This downstream kayaking trip is suitable for beginners, accompanied by a guide trained in river safety.
You depart from Don Det Island and paddle through channels and small islands to the south, stopping at a sandy beach for swimming (during the dry season) and visiting a fishing village to see how locals set fish traps among the rapids. Lunch is served on an island.
In the afternoon, the tour ends with a drive to Khone Phapheng Falls – where the Mekong surges over rocky rapids stretching for kilometers – before returning to the island. The kayaking section follows a safe route, keeping well away from dangerous rapids and waterfalls.

Detailed itinerary
Morning (08:30): The guide picks you up at your accommodation, provides a safety briefing, and begins the kayak trip from Don Det.
09:00: Paddle through the channels and small islands to the south, stopping at a sandy beach and visiting a fishing village.
Lunch (12:00): Have lunch on the island.
Afternoon (13:00): Continue paddling to Nakasang Pier or the pickup point (approximately 1 hour 30 minutes).
14:45: A vehicle takes you to Khone Phapheng Waterfall.
16:00: Return to the pier, then take a boat back to the island. 16:30: End of the tour.

Free cancellation with a 100% refund when notified at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellations made within 24 hours of departure are non-refundable. In the event of bad weather or attraction closures required by the authorities, we can help reschedule the tour or provide a full refund.

Currency: The Lao Kip (LAK) is the official currency; many places accept USD and Thai Baht, but you should exchange some Kip for spending at markets, small shops, and in rural areas.
The tour is led by an English-speaking local guide by default; Vietnamese-, French-, Chinese-, or Thai-speaking guides can be requested (please inform us when booking, subject to guide availability).
The price applies per guest and is based on a private tour for groups of 2 or more guests. Larger groups receive better rates; please contact us.
Visas: International visitors need a Lao visa (apply for an e-visa online before the trip or obtain a visa at international airports and international border crossings); ASEAN citizens are exempt from visas according to regulations. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months.
Guests must have basic swimming skills. During the high-water season (approximately July–October), the itinerary may be adjusted or replaced with a motorboat for safety reasons.
