Tour description
While Don Det and Don Khon attract many young travelers, Don Khong—the largest island in Si Phan Don, approximately 18 km long—still maintains a peaceful rural pace of life. The small town of Muang Khong on the riverbank has a few guesthouses, eateries, and ancient temples.
On the first day, a vehicle takes you south from Pakse (approximately 2 hours), then across a bridge or by ferry to the island. In the afternoon, cycle along the road around the island, passing rice fields, coconut groves, fishing villages, and temples such as Wat Jom Thong, with stops to chat with local residents. Sunset over the Mekong River viewed from Muang Khong is the most beautiful moment of the day.
The next morning, visit the morning market, then stop at Khone Phapheng Falls on the way back to Pakse—the waterfall with the largest flow in Southeast Asia.
