Tour description
Cần Thơ is where most trips to the Mekong Delta stop to visit Cái Răng Floating Market before departing. But the city also has its own rich history: it was once the delta’s most prosperous rice-trading port, and the Vietnamese, Khmer, and Chinese communities—the people who created that prosperity—all left behind distinctive architectural works.
This morning tour will take you to discover these communities. We begin at Bình Thủy Ancient House, built by the Dương family in 1870 and still owned and inhabited by their descendants—a mansion with a French-style façade combined with traditional Vietnamese interiors, featuring carved wood and mother-of-pearl-inlaid furniture, which has appeared in several famous films. Nearby is Bình Thủy Communal House, the village communal house of this former rice-trading area.
Returning to the city center, we will visit Munirensay, a Theravada Khmer pagoda with dazzling golden roofs and naga serpent statues, as well as Ông Pagoda—a Cantonese assembly hall built by Chinese merchants in the 1890s—before concluding at the restored riverside market hall built in 1915 and Ninh Kiều Wharf along the Hậu River.
From July 2025, Cần Thơ merged with Sóc Trăng and Hậu Giang; the former central area is now Ninh Kiều Ward, while Bình Thủy is a separate ward.

Other notes
Bình Thủy Ancient House is privately owned and managed by the family; opening hours may change without prior notice. If the ancient house is closed, we will extend the time spent visiting the pagodas and add a visit to the Cần Thơ Museum when it is open.
The historic market hall now mainly sells souvenirs; it no longer operates as a traditional food market.
Please wear clothing that covers your shoulders and knees when entering the communal house and both pagodas; remove your shoes when entering the shrine halls inside the Khmer pagoda.
From September to November, high tides may cause flooding on some roads in Cần Thơ; the itinerary may change depending on actual conditions.
