Tour description
Khiva is the best-preserved Silk Road city in the world, a walled desert town whose entire old center, Itchan Kala, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, creating the feeling of an open-air museum. Once a notorious khanate involved in the slave trade, its turquoise-tiled minarets and mud-brick alleys now possess an irresistible charm. On this walking tour, a local guide will tell you the city’s legends.
You will pass through grand gates in the city walls, admire the distinctive short, turquoise Kalta Minor minaret, and stroll through alleys lined with madrasas and palaces. Along the way, you will hear stories about khans, caravans, and perilous journeys across the desert. Magical and compact, Khiva is a wonderful city to explore on foot.
