Tour description
Nara was Japan's first permanent capital, and its ancient temples and shrines make it one of the country's most historic and spiritual destinations. Home to a colossal bronze Great Buddha and hundreds of freely roaming deer considered messengers of the gods, Nara is a UNESCO World Heritage treasure. On this walking tour, a local guide will bring its 1,300 years of history to life.
You will visit the majestic Todai-ji Temple with its Great Buddha statue, stroll down lantern-lined paths leading to ancient shrines, and meet the famous bowing deer of Nara Park. Along the way, you will discover the stories behind Japan’s spiritual roots and imperial past. Peaceful and steeped in history, Nara is best explored on foot.
