Bergamo is one of the most beautiful cities in northern Italy, renowned for its stunning upper town, Città Alta, surrounded by fortified walls and perched on a hill above the modern city. Enclosed by imposing walls built by the Venetians and filled with elegant squares and churches, it looks like a perfectly preserved Renaissance stage. On this walking tour, a local guide will introduce you to the city’s history and charm.
You will stand in the charming Piazza Vecchia, admire the ornately decorated Colleoni Chapel, and walk along the imposing Venetian walls. Along the way, you will hear about the merchants and painters of Lombardy, as well as the city’s long history. Elegant and steeped in nostalgia, Bergamo is a wonderful city to explore on foot.
