Tour description
Few cities pack so much history into such a small space as York. Founded by the Romans, once ruled by the Vikings, and crowned by one of Europe’s greatest Gothic cathedrals, York’s walled old town has been a living museum for two thousand years. On this walking tour, a local guide will reveal the city’s layers of history and legend.
You’ll stand beneath the vast York Minster, wander through the winding medieval lanes of The Shambles, and hear stories of emperors, invaders, and ghosts. Compact, atmospheric, and beautifully preserved, York is one of England’s most rewarding cities to explore on foot.
