Tour description
Hạ Long is one of the most visited destinations in Vietnam, yet almost no tourists truly explore the city. They arrive, board a cruise, and leave. But Hạ Long is also the capital of Quảng Ninh, a mining province with a long and resilient history, and this coastal area has a story of its own: coal, the open sea, the Trần dynasty battles on the Bạch Đằng River, and the fishing culture that developed from the floating fishing villages on the bay.
This half-day tour is Hạ Long’s onshore counterpart. We begin at Quảng Ninh Museum, the striking black-glass building on the bayfront, with three floors of exhibits about the bay’s geology, the Bạch Đằng battles, the coal industry, and life in the floating fishing villages—the perfect introduction to the bay, ideal to experience before or after your cruise. Right next door is the Quảng Ninh Planning, Fair and Exhibition Palace, with its dolphin-shaped architecture.
We then travel to Hòn Gai, the old quarter, to visit Long Tiên Pagoda (1941) at the foot of Bài Thơ Mountain, and stroll through Hạ Long Market 1, where the seafood market offers an authentic glimpse of the catch brought in from the bay. The journey ends by crossing Bãi Cháy Bridge to the city’s vibrant tourism area.
Since July 2025, Hạ Long City has been reorganized into wards of Quảng Ninh Province, including Hạ Long, Hồng Gai, Bãi Cháy, and Tuần Châu.
