Tour description
Koh Samui has a reputation for resort food, which is unfair to an island that grows its own coconuts, lands its own fish and cooks a distinctly southern Thai menu. You just have to know where the locals go.
This evening walk starts in Bophut's Fisherman's Village, a strip of hundred-year-old Chinese-Thai wooden shophouses on the north coast, and moves through the food that the island actually eats: squid simmered in coconut milk with local herbs, sour yellow curry with fish, stir-fried stink beans with shrimp paste, and a grilled whole fish packed with lemongrass and served with the sharp green seafood sauce. Coconut turns up everywhere, because Samui was a coconut plantation long before it was a resort, and your guide will explain exactly how the island's coconut economy worked.
We finish with dessert - mango sticky rice in season, or khanom krok coconut pancakes cooked in a dimpled pan at a night stall - and a walk along the beach road.
Small group, maximum 10 guests. Includes a short taxi hop between two clusters.

Cancellation policy
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour start time for a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours are non-refundable. Tours run rain or shine. Samui's wettest months are October to December; if a storm closes the beachside stops we move indoors or refund you in full.
Other notes
Runs daily at 17:30. On Fridays the Fisherman's Village Walking Street runs from about 17:00 to 22:00 and the route takes it in - Friday is the liveliest night and the one we recommend.
Samui's rain season is inverted compared with Phuket and Krabi: the wettest months here are October to December, peaking in November. January to August is reliable.
Getting around Samui: the island's ring road is about 50 km and taxis are expensive with no meters. Hotel pick-up from Chaweng, Lamai or Maenam can be arranged for an extra fee - tell us when booking.
Dietary needs: tell us at least 48 hours ahead. Seafood is central to this tour; a no-seafood route is possible but changes half the stops. Halal options exist on the island and we can route to them with notice.
Minimum age 10. About 1 km of walking plus one short taxi hop.
