Tour description
Nong Khiaw and Muang Ngoi Neua are two villages along the Nam Ou River, surrounded by towering limestone cliffs – some of the most spectacular scenery in northern Laos, yet still peaceful and relatively free of tourists.
On the first day, a vehicle takes you from Luang Prabang to Nong Khiaw (approximately 3 hours). Early the next morning, hike to the Pha Daeng viewpoint to see the valley covered in a sea of clouds and the bridge spanning the Nam Ou River, then take a boat for about 1 hour upstream to Muang Ngoi – a village accessible only by river. From here, walk through rice fields and Tham Kang Cave to Khmu and Lao Loum villages.
On the third day, the boat takes you back to Nong Khiaw, where you visit Pha Tok Cave – a wartime shelter for local residents – before returning to Luang Prabang by vehicle.

Morning (08:30): The vehicle and guide pick you up at your hotel in Luang Prabang and depart for Nong Khiaw (approximately 3 hours), stopping at a local market.
Noon: Have lunch in Nong Khiaw and check in to a riverside bungalow.
Afternoon: Walk around the village and visit Pha Tok Cave.
Evening: Dinner. Overnight in Nong Khiaw.

Safety: some rural areas of Laos still contain unexploded ordnance (UXO) from wartime; always stay on marked trails and follow your guide’s instructions.
Currency: the Lao kip (LAK) is the official currency; many places accept USD and Thai baht, but you should exchange some money into kip for spending at markets, small shops, and in rural areas.
The tour is normally led by an English-speaking local guide; Vietnamese-, French-, Chinese-, or Thai-speaking guides can be requested (please inform us when booking, subject to guide availability).
