Tour description
Chandni Chowk was laid out in the seventeenth century by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan's daughter, and some of the shops on it have been run by the same families since the nineteenth century. It is loud, crowded, physically demanding and the single best eating street in India.
We start where the Old Delhi day starts: bedmi puri with spiced potato and a wedge of nagori halwa, a breakfast that is only sold before eleven. Then Gali Paranthe Wali, a lane so narrow two people cannot pass, where three surviving shops fry stuffed flatbreads in ghee - potato, cauliflower, paneer, lentil, even one filled with a whole chilli - served with pumpkin curry, tamarind chutney and pickle.
The rest of the lane fills in: dahi bhalla, lentil dumplings soaked and dressed with yoghurt and tamarind; palak chaat, spinach leaves fried into crisp shells; Sindhi halwa from a shop that came here after Partition; and jalebi fried in pure ghee at a corner shop open since 1884.
Your guide unpicks the Mughal, Punjabi, Sindhi and Jain threads in a single street and tells you which famous names are now trading on reputation.
Small group, maximum 8 guests.

Cancellation policy
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour start time for a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours are non-refundable. Tours run rain or shine. We cancel and refund in full if air quality reaches a hazardous level - see the notes.
Other notes
Runs daily at 09:30.
Air quality: between November and January Delhi's air can reach hazardous levels for days at a time. We publish this openly rather than bury it. If the AQI is above 300 on your date we will contact you and offer a full refund or a transfer. If you have asthma or a respiratory condition, do not book a Delhi walking tour in that window.
Heat: May and June regularly exceed 45 degrees. We do not run midday tours in those months.
Hygiene, honestly: we only use high-turnover stalls where food is fried or cooked to order, we provide sealed bottled water, and we do not serve ice, raw chutneys, salads or pre-cut fruit on this tour. Bring any medication you normally travel with.
Getting here: use the metro. Chandni Chowk's main road has daytime motor-vehicle restrictions and the lanes are impassable by car regardless. Expect cycle-rickshaw congestion rather than a calm pedestrian street.
An encroachment-clearance drive around the Jama Masjid fringe has been running through 2026 and some stalls there have been affected. Our route stays on the Chandni Chowk side and we reconfirm every stop in the week of your tour.
Dietary needs: tell us at least 48 hours ahead. This route is entirely vegetarian by nature, and a Jain version without onion, garlic and root vegetables is possible with notice.
Friday: the Jama Masjid area is busy around midday prayers. Our route is unaffected.
Entirely on foot, about 2 km in very crowded lanes. Not suitable for wheelchairs or limited mobility.
