Tour description
Most visitors only catch a fleeting glimpse of Vinh City from the north–south trains linking Hanoi and Hue, without ever stopping. That is a shame if you are interested in modern Vietnamese history: 16 km from the city are two villages where President Ho Chi Minh was born and grew up, while Nghe An as a whole has long been renowned—through more than two centuries of heroic uprisings—as one of the country’s most resilient and indomitable regions.
This sightseeing tour brings that historical thread together. We begin at Ho Chi Minh Square in central Vinh, then travel to the Kim Lien Special National Heritage Site: Hoang Tru Village, his maternal hometown where he spent his early childhood, and Sen Village, his paternal hometown where he lived during his teenage years. Both places feature simple thatched houses preserved in their original state, and your guide will share stories about his family, the Confucian traditions of the learned scholar he descended from, and the influence of those homes on the character of the future leader.
Back in the center, we will walk past the stone gates and moats of Vinh Ancient Citadel, built in 1804 and rebuilt in stone in 1831, then stop for lunch at a traditional Vinh eel restaurant to enjoy eel soup and eel porridge—local specialties that every Vietnamese person associates with Nghe An. The afternoon is devoted entirely to Cua Lo, the province’s famous seaside town, with time for a leisurely stroll along the sandy shore and views of the fishing boats.
A note about the destination: following the administrative reorganization in July 2025, ‘Vinh City’ was divided into six wards (Thanh Vinh, Truong Vinh, Vinh Hung, Vinh Phu, Vinh Loc, and Cua Lo), while Kim Lien is now a commune. Local residents still commonly call this area ‘Vinh’, and so do we.
