Tour description
Euljiro is Seoul’s old printing and metalworking district, a network of small workshops that empties out at six and fills up again with people going out for drinks. Nogari Alley—named after dried young pollock, almost the only true snack food here—sets hundreds of plastic tables directly along the street, and on a warm evening, it is the most enjoyable place in the city to drink beer.
We begin there with grilled nogari, torn by hand and dipped in gochujang mayonnaise, enjoyed with cold draft beer, and golbaengi muchim, sea snails tossed with chili and noodles. Your guide will explain hof culture, how Koreans drink, and the drinking etiquette that everyone can easily get wrong on their first night.
Then we take the subway to Sindang, where an entire street is devoted to tteokbokki cooked in a pan right on your table—rice cakes, fish cakes, ramen noodles, mandu, and boiled eggs gently simmering in a red broth that gets better the longer it cooks. This is the food Korean teenagers grow up with, and it is far better than the street-vendor version.
We finish with a stroll through the bars in the alleys behind Euljiro and a hotteok or bungeoppang, depending on the season.
Small group, maximum 8 guests.
