Tour description
Coimbra was once the medieval capital of Portugal and is home to one of Europe's oldest universities—a city where black-caped students still sing romantic, melancholic fado melodies. Tiered along the banks of the Mondego River, the old town is a maze of steep alleys, historic churches, and longstanding academic traditions. On this walking tour, a local guide will bring the city's rich history to life.
You will stroll through the medieval quarter toward the historic university, listening to stories of kings, scholars, and student rituals, while discovering what sets Coimbra's fado apart from Lisbon's. Atmospheric, romantic, and steeped in knowledge, Coimbra is a city that will leave a lasting impression on you.
