Tour description
Fortunately spared from wartime bombing, Kanazawa preserves an atmosphere of feudal Japan that few cities can match, with intact geisha teahouse districts, venerable samurai residences, and one of the country's most renowned gardens. Once the seat of a powerful clan, the city was a major cultural and handicraft center. On this walking tour, a local guide will reveal traditions that have endured through the ages.
You will stroll past wooden teahouses with lattice doors in the Higashi Chaya district, explore the earthen-walled lanes of the old samurai quarter, and learn about gold leaf, silk, and the tea ceremony. Elegant, steeped in nostalgia, and beautifully preserved, Kanazawa offers a rare walking journey back to old Japan.
