Tour description
Cycling in Saigon may sound crazy, and it certainly is if you go at nine in the morning. But at six o’clock, it is one of the most enjoyable experiences you can have in the city. The streets of Cholon, the historic Chinatown, are quiet enough for cycling; the parks are filled with people practicing tai chi and dancing; and the markets and temples are gradually waking up.
With a cycling guide riding alongside you, we will leisurely follow an arc through the neighborhood: Binh Tay Market as the wholesalers begin opening, the Chinese assembly halls on Nguyen Trai Street with their giant incense coils, the traditional medicine street where roots and dried herbs are sold by the kilogram, and the narrow residential alleyways behind the main roads. Breakfast is served in an alley—a bowl of pho and Vietnamese coffee—before we cycle back as city traffic begins to pick up.
