Tour description
Almost every tour in Phu Quoc heads out to sea—whether it is a four-island tour, a cable car ride, or a snorkeling trip to see coral reefs. This tour, however, takes you inland to explore the story of the island itself: how a remote fishing village in the Gulf of Thailand grew famous for two renowned products, fish sauce and pepper, and why it bears the traces of one of the most brutal chapters in modern Vietnamese history.
We begin at Dinh Cau, a small shrine on a rocky outcrop at the mouth of the Duong Dong River, where fishermen still come to pray for safety before each trip to sea. From there, we will visit a traditional fish sauce factory, where anchovies and salt are fermented for an entire year in huge wooden barrels, along with a pepper garden, where the guide will explain why Phu Quoc pepper has been famous since long before the resorts appeared.
Lunch is served on the tranquil east coast in Ham Ninh, a stilt-house fishing village famous for its steamed crab. In the afternoon, the group will visit Truc Lam Ho Quoc Zen Monastery, a peaceful monastery on a mountainside overlooking the open sea, and end the journey at Phu Quoc Prison (Coconut Tree Prison) in the south, where tens of thousands of prisoners of war were once detained during the war. This is a solemn stop, introduced by the guide with the utmost dignity and respect.
Since July 2025, Phu Quoc has been a special administrative zone of An Giang Province.
