Detailed itinerary

Hanoi - Ha Giang by high-quality sleeper bus (300 km)

At around 20:30, the group will travel to our bus pick-up point and begin the journey to Ha Giang, spending the night on the bus.

For passengers arriving at Noi Bai Airport close to the departure time, the sleeper bus will pick up the group at Kim Anh – Noi Bai Junction (2.3 km from the airport).

For buses from provinces such as Sa Pa, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong, and Quang Ninh, the pick-up time to Ha Giang will depend on the schedule.

At around 4:00 a.m., the group will arrive in Ha Giang City. The driver will drop the group off to rest at one of our partner homestays in the city.

P/s: This is a travel guide for those who can depart the night before, allowing more time to experience Ha Giang. The 3-day, 2-night Ha Giang Tour will begin in Ha Giang City.

We will arrange transportation if you would like to depart from the locations mentioned above.

If a private group departs from Hanoi during the day by private vehicle, we will provide advice and arrange a suitable itinerary.
Ha Giang - Quan Ba - Dong Van (135km) (B,L,D)

7:30 a.m., after breakfast, the tour guide and driver will pick up the group by car, and the 3-day, 2-night Ha Giang Tour officially begins!

The first destination is Quan Ba Heaven Gate, where the group will begin trekking to Nam Dam Village – home to the Dao ethnic people. You can learn about their customs, traditions, traditional culture, and daily life. The group will have the opportunity to visit traditional earthen-walled houses made of clay to protect residents from the harsh weather in the high mountains and will be welcomed by friendly and hospitable hosts.

After that, the group will continue trekking along a trail to Lung Tam linen-weaving village – learning about the traditional clothing-making craft using hemp, which is famous among the H’mong people. (If the group is not physically fit, this trekking section can be shortened.)

The group will stop for lunch at a Dao ethnic homestay.

Leaving Lung Tam Village, our driver will take the group to Dong Van along beautiful winding roads, past limestone mountains and the traditional homes of the H’mong people, which have stood for generations.

If you travel in spring (February–March), the area will be brilliant with the pink of peach blossoms and the white of plum blossoms. If you travel from September to November, you will admire the beauty of a local flower – buckwheat flowers. If you travel from April to June, you will see the green of vast cornfields.

The group will stop to visit the H’mong King’s Palace – Vuong Chinh Duc’s residence in Dong Van, Ha Giang – located in the beautiful Sa Phin Valley and featuring ancient Chinese architecture. Learn about the architecture, history, and culture of the Vuong family in particular and the H’mong people of the rocky plateau in general through our guide’s fascinating stories.

The group will spend the night at a 3-star hotel in Dong Van. However, if you want to explore the cultural life of the H’mong people by staying in a local home and learning traditional H’mong dances, we will arrange a homestay for the group.

Summary:

+ Travel by car: 130km, approximately 4 hours

+ Trekking level: Easy, approximately 8–9km in 3 hours.
Dong Van - Ma Pi Leng Pass - Nho Que River - Meo Vac (90 km)

Morning: Trekking the White Cliff – Ma Pi Leng Pass

After breakfast, the vehicle will take the group to the trekking route along Ma Pi Leng Pass.

The walking trail follows mountain cliffs, hillsides, cornfields, vegetable valleys, and villages inhabited by Hmong people living in the high mountains. The group will then follow steep rocky slopes below the White Cliff, from where you can enjoy panoramic views of the winding Ma Pi Leng Pass and the clear, romantic Nho Que River below, surrounded by majestic limestone mountain ranges. This is the most unique highlight of your Ha Giang trekking trip.

After walking downhill to the foot of the mountain for 2.5–3 hours, the group will stop for a light lunch at a restaurant on the pass while resting and admiring the Nho Que River, or travel to Meo Vac town for lunch.

Afternoon: Boat ride or kayaking on the Nho Que River

The Nho Que River lies at the foot of Tu San Canyon, one of the newest and most attractive highlights on the Ha Giang trekking route. Tu San Canyon is considered the deepest canyon in Southeast Asia (more than 2,000 m) and one of the most unique in Vietnam. The best way to enjoy the beauty of Tu San Canyon and immerse yourself in the emerald waters of the Nho Que River is by boat or kayak, surrounded by mountains, rivers, and the fresh air of the highlands.

You will walk along the mountainside and stone steps from the main road down to the boat pier and back up. With a relatively steep gradient, this is also an excellent trekking route for those who enjoy physical activity.

At the end of the journey, our driver will take the group to a Hmong cultural village in Meo Vac, where you will stay overnight in a homestay.

Summary:

+ Travel by car: approximately 20 km

+ Trekking level: Moderate, approximately 12 km in 4 hours, with a gradient of more than 10–15%
Meo Vac - Lung Cu - Ha Giang (150 km)

Meo Vac Sunday Market. If day 3 of your group’s itinerary falls on a Sunday, you will have the opportunity to visit the market in Meo Vac, one of the distinctive cultural features of Ha Giang’s rocky plateau.

The market still preserves the traditional customs of the ethnic minorities passed down through generations. It is not only a place for trading and commerce, but also where friends, relatives, and young men and women meet, chat, and share their stories. You will experience the lively atmosphere, admire the vibrant colors of the ethnic groups’ traditional costumes, and sample local specialties. This will certainly be a unique experience during your trip to Ha Giang.

Leaving Meo Vac, you can choose one of two options:

– Option 1: Trekking in Dong Van – experiencing and discovering Hmong culture in greater depth
Leaving Meo Vac, the group will trek through Hmong villages nestled deep in the high mountains, along narrow trails and rocky paths through forests surrounded by majestic mountains—a route visited by very few tourists. The peaceful surroundings and fresh air, together with visits to local homes and opportunities to observe or participate in residents’ daily work, will give you time to gain a deeper understanding of Hmong culture.

– Option 2: Visit Lung Cu Flag Tower, the northernmost point of the country – discovering Lo Lo culture
Lung Cu Flag Tower is considered the northernmost point of Vietnam and is home to the national flagpole, affirming national sovereignty at the border. After visiting Lung Cu Flag Tower, the group will visit a Lo Lo ethnic cultural village, home to a small ethnic minority that has preserved its distinctive cultural traditions. You can try wearing traditional Lo Lo clothing and stay in a traditional rammed-earth house to take unique and beautiful photos.

– After lunch, the group will return to Ha Giang.

– You will arrive in Ha Giang at around 5–6 p.m. The group will rest and have dinner, then at around 8–9 p.m. board a bus back to Hanoi. End of the program.

Summary:
+ Travel by car: approximately 110 km in 3–4 hours

+ Hiking level: Moderate, approximately 8 km in 3 hours, with a gradient of more than 7–10%
