Detailed itinerary
Morning: 07:30 Our car and tour guide will pick you up at your hotel in the Old Quarter, the Hanoi Opera House, or Thong Nhat Park – Tran Nhan Tong Street, departing for the tour of Tam Chuc Pagoda. Guests will arrange breakfast at their own expense during the journey.
09:00 Arrive at the Tam Chuc Pagoda spiritual tourism complex: Tam Chuc Pagoda is associated with the legend "Tien Luc Nhac - Hau That Tinh" (Six musical bells in the front - Seven Stars in the back). According to this, on the 99-peak mountain range located in the southwest facing Huong Pagoda, there are 7 mountains near Tam Chuc village. Old lore says that on all 7 of these mountains, a large bright spot appeared like 7 stars, shining night and day. The shimmering light from above illuminated a vast area. Villagers called them the "That Tinh" (Seven Stars) mountains and the pagoda here was named "That Tinh" Pagoda. Later, someone came to That Tinh Mountain and chiseled away, hoping to take away those 7 special stars. They piled firewood into huge heaps and burned them for many days, causing 4 stars to gradually dim, and finally, only 3 stars remained. Therefore, "That Tinh" Pagoda was later renamed "Ba Sao" (Three Stars) Pagoda, and Ba Sao town (Kim Bang) was also named after this legend.
Upon arrival, visitors will head to the Tam Chuc boat dock and board a boat cruise on Tam Chuc Lake. Tam Chuc Lake is one of the largest natural lakes in Vietnam, surrounded by limestone mountain ranges. In the middle of the lake, 6 small mountains rise up, creating poetic scenery.
Taking a boat trip on the lake, you will stop to visit a small island and the communal house on it, called Tam Chuc Communal House – a structure embodying the quintessence of Northern Vietnamese temple and pagoda architecture. Next, visitors will move to Tam Quan Gate, concluding the lake sightseeing journey.
- Tam Chuc Communal House is currently a restored architectural work in the heart of Tam Chuc Lake. Tam Chuc Village Communal House is located on a small island accessible by a land path. The communal house is compact, bearing the characteristic architecture of Northern communal houses and temples. In the past, Tam Chuc Village Communal House was dedicated to Queen Duong Thi Nguyet of the Dinh Dynasty, Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang, and the Bach Ma (White Horse) deity. History records that when Dinh Bo Linh quelled the Anarchy of the 12 Warlords, he came to what is now Kim Bang to recruit troops and store grain, and visited the Linh Lang Bach Ma temple to pray for blessings. Upon ascending the imperial throne, Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang ordered the people of Kim Bang to erect a temple dedicated to the Linh Lang Bach Ma Deity.
Leaving the boat, guests continue to visit Tam The Hall, featuring exquisite carvings and housing three Tam The statues representing the past, present, and future. Afterwards, visitors head to Phap Chu Hall, which boasts four large bas-reliefs covering the entire interior walls, depicting the stages of Shakyamuni Buddha's life. Travelers then continue to Quan Am Hall, which is dedicated to the Thousand-Eyed, Thousand-Armed Bodhisattva. Stepping outside, you will reach the Sutra Pillar Garden, featuring scripture pillars over 13 meters high standing tall in the courtyard.
Next, you will visit Ngoc Pagoda (Jade Pagoda) atop That Tinh Mountain, located at an altitude of 468 meters with 299 steps, built entirely of interlocking granite blocks imported from India.
Afterward, the group boards the electric shuttle to return to the restaurant to rest and have lunch.
14:00 The group continues to visit Truc Temple, which is covered by lush green bamboo throughout the area. Listen to the historical tale of General Ly Thuong Kiet's southern campaign, when a strange wind swept through this region and carried the general's flag to the top of the mountain,...
Explore Ngu Dong Thi Son, featuring five interconnected caves forming a continuous cavern complex called Ngu Dong Son, with a myriad of diverse stalactites and stalagmites that spark the imagination: shapes resembling a mother's breast, an open rice pot, an elephant, a turtle... Some stalactites are hidden deep in the shadows and suddenly glisten like pearls and gems when illuminated by torchlight. Others take the shapes of resting drums, hanging drums, or temple blocks, which remarkably produce resonant, authentic sounds when struck.
16:00 Board the vehicle to return to Hanoi.
18:00 Arrive at the initial meeting point, concluding the Tam Chuc Pagoda tour. Farewell, and see you again on future journeys.
