Tour description

Eight kilometers east of Hue, quiet roads lead past open rice fields to Thanh Toan, a village famous for one thing: its wooden, tile-roofed covered bridge, built in 1776 by a local woman, Tran Thi Dao, so farmers could cross the canal. It is a masterpiece of rural Vietnamese architecture, and local people still sit on the bridge’s benches in the afternoon.

This is a gentle cycling trip along flat village roads and dikes, suitable for most people who know how to ride a bicycle. Along the way, we will stop at village temples and communal houses, a small agricultural tools museum, and among the fields to learn about a year of rice cultivation. Lunch is a farm-style meal near the bridge, after which we cycle back to Hue—or take a vehicle back if you prefer.
