Detailed itinerary

NIGHT EXPLORATION OF THANG LONG IMPERIAL CITADEL (MEALS: NONE)

Tour departure time: 19:00 every Friday and Saturday. Please arrive 15 minutes before departure at the gate of Thang Long Imperial Citadel, 19C Hoang Dieu.

– Check-in and take photos at Doan Mon Gate: Doan Mon is one of the main gates leading into the Forbidden City. Based on the building materials and surviving architectural style of the relic, it can be confirmed that the current Doan Mon was built during the Le Dynasty and renovated during the Nguyen Dynasty.

– Watch art performances on the archaeological glass floor at Doan Mon: Upon entering the Doan Mon relic, you will have the opportunity to admire talented performers recreating the King's Royal Audience Ceremony and the "Thang Long Imperial Court" dance.

– Visit the artifact exhibition gallery:

- Thang Long – Hanoi Exhibition: Showcases the distinctive imprints of each historical period, intertwined and overlapping one another. It exhibits 215 antiquities including dragon and phoenix statues, carved bricks, daily utensils, and objects used in the ancient royal palace, etc.

- Thang Long Imperial Palace Treasures Exhibition: Showcased to visitors for the first time with 29 typical artifacts excavated at Thang Long Imperial Citadel from 2002 to the present. The exhibition consists of 3 spaces: Ly – Tran Dynasties artifacts, Early Le, Mac, and Restored Le Dynasties artifacts, and an outdoor space highlighting newly introduced artifacts such as Tran Dynasty terracotta basins and Early Le green-glazed architectural models.

- Dynasties Exhibition: Here, spaces are also divided according to prominent dynasties: Ly, Tran, Le, and Restored Le. This not only helps visitors learn about the genealogies of the reigning monarchs, but also displays typical artifacts and symbols of each era.

- Imperial Dragon Exhibition: Introduces the image of the Vietnamese dragon throughout historical periods, including its characteristics, figurative art, architectural ornamentation, utensils, etc.

- Archaeological Exhibition: Located at 18 Hoang Dieu, adjacent to the archaeological excavation site, this gallery introduces archaeological relics unearthed at Thang Long Imperial Citadel, such as dragon head sculptures, bodhi leaf motifs, etc.

– Offer incense in memory of the ancient emperors at Kinh Thien Palace: This is the central relic within the overall complex of the Central Sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long – Hanoi. Kinh Thien Palace was the most important palace, where the royal court held its most solemn ceremonies, received foreign envoys, and held imperial audiences to discuss major national affairs.

– Visit the archaeological vestiges at 18 Hoang Dieu: In these areas, numerous types of architectural vestiges and relics have been discovered, overlapping and spanning over 1,300 years, beginning from the Dai La period (7th – 9th centuries), through the Dinh – Early Le dynasties (10th century), Ly Dynasty (1009 – 1225), Tran Dynasty (1226 – 1400), Ho Dynasty (1400 – 1407), Early Le Dynasty (1428 – 1527), Mac Dynasty (1527 – 1592), Restored Le Dynasty (1592 – 1789), and Nguyen Dynasty (1802 – 1945).

– Experience royal well water: One of the prominent highlights here is the ancient well from the Tran Dynasty, also known as the King's Well (dating back to around the 13th – 14th centuries). During excavation, archaeologists found a large quantity of ceramics and Tran Dynasty architectural materials inside the well.

– Decode artifacts with laser light: This decoding experience is an engaging activity that helps visitors learn more about the nation's history.

– Relax and savor royal lotus tea and lotus seed sweet treats under the shade of the Bodhi tree: Visitors will sit together, sip fragrant tea, enjoy candied lotus seeds, and share their thoughts.
