Tour description
Oudong is about 40 km north of Phnom Penh and was Cambodia’s capital from 1618 to 1866, before King Norodom moved the capital to Phnom Penh. Today, the Phnom Udong hills are famous for their white and gold stupas, which house the ashes of generations of kings, as well as the surrounding scenery of palm-dotted rice fields.
You will climb approximately 500 steps to the hilltop and visit Mak Proum Stupa, Ang Duong Stupa, and the new Damrei Sam Poan Stupa, which houses a Buddha relic brought from Sri Lanka. At the foot of the hill is the Vipassana Dhura Meditation Center, home to a community of monks and lay practitioners.
On the way back, the tour stops at Koh Chen Village on the Tonle Sap River, where families continue the traditional craft of hammering and engraving silver and copper to make betel boxes, offering bowls, and exquisite decorative items.
A peaceful tour with few tourists, ideal for those interested in culture and spirituality.
