Tour description
Boun That Luang is the most important religious festival for the Lao people, taking place around the full moon of the 12th lunar month (in 2026, the main day is November 24) at Pha That Luang – the national symbol. Pilgrims from across Laos and Thailand flock to Vientiane.
On the first day, watch the Phasat Pheung procession – “castles” made of beeswax and decorated with flowers and offerings, carried three times around the stupa to music and dancing. Explore the festival fair featuring handicrafts and cuisine from across the provinces. On the main morning, wake up early to witness thousands of monks seated in long rows receiving alms from local people. During the day, watch a Tikhi match – a traditional sport similar to hockey. In the evening, join local people in lighting candles and carrying flowers three times around the stupa during the enchanting Vien Thien ritual.
