Tour description
For four centuries, Hoi An’s trade depended on the villages along the Thu Bon River. Kim Bong, located on an island across the river, supplied the carpenters who built the town’s wooden houses and the boats that transported goods; Thanh Ha, upstream, supplied tiles, bricks, and pots. Both villages are still active, and the way to reach them is still by river.
We depart from the pier beside the market on a local wooden boat, first crossing the river to Kim Bong in the morning, when the woodcarvers and boatbuilders are at work. Back on the boat, we continue upstream to Thanh Ha, where families still shape pots on handmade pottery wheels and fire them in riverside brick kilns. We visit Thanh Ha Terracotta Park, with miniature clay models of famous landmarks from around the world and a small museum about Hoi An ceramics, before having lunch in the village and returning by boat.
