SAIGON – TRA VINH – AO BA OM – VISIT KHMER PAGODAS
06:00 Our vehicle and tour guide will pick you up at the meeting point. The one-day journey to Tra Vinh will bring you many wonderful experiences.
07:00 You will stop for breakfast at a restaurant. The menu includes My Tho rice noodle soup/water fern cake soup/banh mi with fried eggs + iced tea/coffee.
The group arrives in Tra Vinh. Then visit:
- Ao Ba Om: Visit the Ao Ba Om National Heritage Site, one of Tra Vinh Province’s most prominent scenic attractions, featuring remarkably romantic scenery. The pond is surrounded by rows of ancient star and dipterocarp trees with large, uniquely shaped exposed roots. You will also hear legends related to the Khmer matriarchal system and the story of the clever woman who created this beautiful landscape.
- Koskeoseray Pagoda: Featuring three towers and strong cultural characteristics of Southern Khmer pagodas, this is a place where Buddhist devotees can worship Buddha and pray for peace and well-being for their families and loved ones in a solemn and magnificent setting.
- Ang Pagoda: The oldest pagoda in the Khmer pagoda system in Tra Vinh, built more than 1,000 years ago, with architecture deeply imbued with the spiritual and religious culture of the Southern Khmer people.
- Pisesaram Pagoda: This pagoda is more than 500 years old. After an extensive restoration in 2009, the formerly old and dilapidated pagoda received a brand-new appearance, shimmering with golden hues and embellished with many other vivid colors that enhance its ornate decorative patterns. The beauty here will overwhelm you, making you feel as if you have wandered into a royal palace in the distant Golden Land.
- Phat Quang Pagoda: Founded by Most Venerable Khanh Anh in 1934 (Buddhist calendar year 2478), this is one of Tra Vinh’s sacred and beautiful Northern Buddhist pagodas.
12:00 The group will have lunch at a local resident’s home, enjoying Southern Vietnamese dishes prepared with locally caught ingredients and homegrown vegetables and wild greens, savoring their rich, fragrant sweetness.
In the afternoon, the group visits:
- Hang Pagoda: It is called Hang Pagoda because its gate was built to resemble a cave, measuring 12 m wide, 12 m long, and 12 m deep, with one main entrance and two side entrances leading from the gate to the main sanctuary 100 m away. More than 300 years old, Hang Pagoda features beautiful architecture and is situated within a green area of more than 2 hectares, including star and dipterocarp trees. It has long been a habitat and breeding ground for thousands of birds of various species. This creates the ancient pagoda’s appeal and distinctive character.
- Sam Bua Pagoda: Sam Bua Pagoda is located in Chau Thanh, Tra Vinh. This ancient pagoda has a long history. From the front of the pagoda, at the main gate, follow the main road for a few hundred meters to reach Ao Vuong. Within a 2-kilometer radius of this area are more than 20 pagodas, shrines, communal houses, and other religious sites, considered one of the most sacred areas of Buddhism in Tra Vinh.
The pagoda’s main sanctuary retains its traditional appearance. Inside, a statue of Buddha Shakyamuni is enshrined. The columns feature beautifully carved and painted decorative panels, while the surrounding walls are painted with scenes from the life of Buddha.
14:30 The group travels back to Ho Chi Minh City. On the way, the group will visit Mai Am Tinh Thuong – Ben Tre, a home that cares for and educates more than 80 orphaned and disadvantaged children who have sought refuge under the protection of the Buddha. (We have prepared some gifts; you may also prepare additional gifts according to your wishes and hand them over directly.)
18:00 The group arrives in Ho Chi Minh City, concluding the Tra Vinh Pilgrimage program, a journey that touches the heart. Our tour guide looks forward to seeing you again on upcoming programs.
