Descripción del tour
Glodok has been Jakarta's Chinese quarter since the Dutch confined the community here in 1740. It is the oldest continuously trading district in the city, and on a weekday morning its alleys are a working market rather than a heritage site.
We begin with free ginger tea at a 1910 building that has revived an old Chinese custom of offering tea to passers-by, then walk into Gang Gloria for iced coffee at a shop that has been pouring since 1927 - a narrow room with marble tables where the same family still makes only three drinks. From there we go deep into Petak Sembilan, the market alley behind the Chinese temple: noodles from a stall that has run for generations, steamed rice with chicken and mushroom, kue ape pancakes cooked in dimpled pans, and a wall of tropical fruit and dried goods your guide will translate.
We finish with Betawi food - the cooking of Jakarta's own indigenous people - including kerak telor, a rice and egg crepe cooked over coals with dried shrimp and fried shallot, and nasi uduk, coconut rice with a plate of fried sides.
Small group, maximum 10 guests, entirely on foot.

Política de cancelación y reembolso

Otras notas
Runs daily at 08:00. The morning start matters twice over - Glodok's market is a morning market, and Jakarta's heat and traffic both become punishing after eleven.
Halal note: Glodok is Jakarta's Chinese quarter and much of its cooking is pork-based. For Muslim guests we run a Betawi and Padang route instead, which is entirely halal and just as good. Tell us when you book and we will send you the alternative itinerary.
Getting here: Glodok station on the MRT is a short walk. Do not drive - Jakarta's traffic between 06:30 and 09:30 can turn five kilometres into ninety minutes, and the odd-even plate restriction applies on main roads on weekday mornings.
On Sunday mornings the Car-Free Day closes Sudirman and Thamrin to traffic from 06:00 to 11:00, which makes the city briefly walkable.
Dietary needs: tell us at least 48 hours ahead.
Entirely on foot, about 2 km, with narrow and uneven alleys.
