Descripción del tour
Mexico City eats tacos late. The best taqueria in Narvarte is a car repair shop until eight in the evening, when the mechanics clear out, the trompo goes up on the pavement and a queue forms that does not end until three in the morning. That is the tour.
We go to three or four stands across one neighbourhood, standing at each, eating two or three tacos and moving on, which is how this is actually done. Al pastor carved off the spit with a slice of pineapple flipped onto the tortilla. Suadero, a cut of beef confited in its own fat in a shallow copper dish. Campechano, which mixes suadero with chorizo. Longaniza, chicharron, and quesadillas that in this city do not automatically contain cheese, a fact your guide will explain and that will confuse you.
Between stands you learn the salsa system, the correct way to hold a taco, why you should never be handed a fork, and what makes a trompo good.
We finish with a michelada or a mezcal, and an esquite - corn in a cup with mayonnaise, cheese, chilli and lime.
Small group, maximum 8 guests.

Itinerario detallado
Stop 1 - Al pastor at the trompo: A stand that is an auto repair shop by day and one of the city's most famous taquerias after eight at night. Pork off the spit with pineapple, onion and coriander.
Stop 2 - The salsa system: Your guide takes you through the salsas at the counter - roja, verde, habanero, macha - and how to order the heat you actually want.
Stop 3 - Suadero: Beef slow-cooked in its own fat in a shallow copper pan, chopped and served on a double tortilla with onion and lime.
Stop 4 - Campechano and longaniza: Suadero mixed with chorizo, plus spiced sausage, from a second stand a few blocks away.
Stop 5 - Quesadillas: Which in Mexico City do not automatically contain cheese, and which you must therefore order carefully. Filled with huitlacoche, flor de calabaza or tinga.
Stop 6 - Esquites: Corn cut into a cup with mayonnaise, chilli powder, lime and crumbled cheese, from a cart.
Stop 7 - Michelada or mezcal: A beer with lime, salt and chilli, or a small mezcal, to finish, with your guide's map of the city's taco neighbourhoods.

Otras notas
Runs daily at 19:30.
Minimum age 18 because of the drink stops and the late finish. Private family versions without alcohol are available - ask us.
This is a standing tour. There are almost no chairs at a Mexico City taqueria and that is not an oversight. Wear comfortable shoes.
Safety: Narvarte is a residential middle-class neighbourhood and this is a normal evening out there. Your guide stays with the group, we use app-based cars at the end, and we ask you to keep phones away on the street.
Water and ice: tap water is not drinkable. We provide bottled water. Ice at the venues we use is commercially purified.
Cash: taco stands are cash only. Your guide pays for everything.
Altitude is 2,240 metres; the walk is flat but you may tire faster than at sea level.
Dietary needs: tell us at least 48 hours ahead. Vegetarian is possible via quesadillas with huitlacoche and flor de calabaza, nopales and esquites, but a taco crawl is a meat event and we would be honest with you about that.
About 2 km of walking between stands.
