Descrição do tour
Most visitors never get past District 1. Cho Lon — Saigon's Chinatown, and the largest Chinatown in Vietnam — sits six kilometres west, and it is a different city: Cantonese and Teochew family businesses, herbal medicine halls, temple courtyards thick with incense, and a food culture that arrived by sea.
We start inside Binh Tay Market, a 1920s market hall built around a courtyard by a Chinese merchant, at the hour when it is still a wholesale market rather than a tourist stop. You eat hu tieu — the clear pork-and-prawn noodle soup that Cho Lon gave the rest of Vietnam — surrounded by traders taking their own breakfast, and taste a Chinese sweet soup made with lotus seed and dried longan.
Then we walk into the old streets for coffee brewed the Teochew way, ground fine and strained through a cloth sock into a glass, drunk sitting on a stool with the newspaper. Your guide takes you through a herbal medicine street and into one of the oldest Chinese temples in the city, and explains how the Hoa community built this district, what happened to it after 1975, and what remains.
The last stretch is a Bib Gourmand pho house on Nguyen Trai where the southern style is at its sweetest and most generous, a stop for banh in the An Dong market arcade, and a Chinese dessert to close.
Small group, maximum 10 guests. Mostly walking with two short taxi hops included, because Cho Lon's landmarks are two kilometres apart.

Roteiro detalhado

Outros avisos
One departure daily at 07:30. The early start is deliberate - Binh Tay's food alleys are at their best before 09:00 and the district gets very hot by mid-morning.
Getting there: the meeting point is about 25 minutes by taxi or Grab from Ben Thanh. Metro Line 1 does not reach Cho Lon. We can arrange hotel pick-up from District 1 for an extra fee if you tell us when booking.
Temple visit: please bring clothing that covers your shoulders and knees for the temple stop.
Addresses: since the July 2025 administrative merger the old District 5 and 6 are now the wards of Cho Lon, An Dong and Cho Quan. Street numbers are unchanged and locals still use the old district names.
Dietary needs: tell us at least 48 hours ahead. Vegetarian is straightforward here - Cho Lon has a strong Buddhist vegetarian tradition and we can build the whole route meat-free.
