O bánh khọt é uma pequena panqueca feita de farinha de arroz e leite de coco, assada em uma forma de ferro fundido com cavidades até que as bordas fiquem crocantes como renda e o centro macio, coberta com um camarão inteiro e óleo de cebolinha, e consumida enrolada em folhas de mostarda e ervas frescas mergulhadas em molho. Vũng Tàu é onde este prato atinge sua melhor versão, e os moradores locais levam essa iguaria tão a sério que quatro ou cinco estabelecimentos são constantemente comparados em debates acalorados.
Este tour vai comparar esses locais. Você vai na garupa de uma moto com um guia e motorista local, percorrendo cerca de seis quilômetros pela cidade, comendo três ou quatro bánh khọt em cada uma das quatro paradas e conversando sobre o que torna cada lugar único: a proporção de leite de coco na massa, se usam fogão a lenha ou a gás, camarão fresco ou seco, e se adicionam feijão-mungo.
O local mais famoso, situado sob uma árvore de caimito, usa fogão a lenha e costuma esgotar no início da tarde. O segundo local é o favorito dos habitantes locais e custa metade do preço. O terceiro só abre à tarde, então este tour matutino visita aqueles que estão abertos no horário.
Terminamos com um café e um bánh mì xíu, o sanduíche local servido com molho e almôndegas de porco.
Máximo de 8 pessoas, uma por moto.

We meet outside the banh khot shop at 14 Nguyen Truong To. Your rider-guide will be waiting with a spare helmet in your name.
Roteiro detalhado
Stop 1 - The famous one, Nguyen Truong To: Banh khot cooked over a wood fire under a star apple tree, with a whole shrimp on each, wrapped in mustard leaf with herbs and dipped in nuoc cham.
Stop 2 - How it is made: Your guide takes you to the pan so you can see the dimpled cast iron, the batter, the coconut milk and the oil, and explains what separates a good one from a bad one.
Stop 3 - The local favourite, Ba Trieu: The version residents eat, at about half the price, with a different batter and a different chilli.
Stop 4 - A third kitchen: A quieter shop with its own take - mung bean in the batter, or dried shrimp instead of fresh - for a proper side-by-side comparison.
Stop 5 - Banh mi xiu: The Vung Tau sandwich - a baguette with pork meatballs in a tomato gravy, quite different from the Saigon version.
Stop 6 - Ca phe and a sea view: Coffee at a spot overlooking the bay, with your guide's notes on the town.

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour start time for a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours are non-refundable, because riders and bikes are assigned per guest.

Runs daily at 07:30. The banh khot shops on this route are morning kitchens and the most famous one sells out early; the afternoon-only shops are covered on our evening tour instead.
You ride as a passenger only. No licence or experience needed and you will never be asked to drive. Helmets are provided and compulsory. Please wear long trousers and closed shoes.
Maximum weight per passenger 100 kg, minimum age 12. Not suitable during pregnancy or with back or neck injuries. If riding is not for you, tell us and we will run the same circuit by car for an extra fee.
