Tour description
The Nam Khan River flows through green valleys before joining the Mekong River in Luang Prabang. The upstream section has gentle currents interspersed with a few small rapids, making it very suitable for beginner kayaking.
In the morning, a vehicle takes you to the starting point, where a certified rescue guide provides paddling instruction. You kayak downstream for approximately 2–3 hours, stopping at a sandy beach and a Khmu village along the river. At noon, you arrive at Tad Sae Waterfall—a waterfall with dozens of low limestone tiers, where emerald-green water flows over them like natural stairways—for lunch and a refreshing swim.
Tad Sae Waterfall is at its most beautiful during the rainy season and early dry season (approximately August–December); water levels may be low at the end of the dry season.

Detailed itinerary
Morning (08:30): The vehicle and guide pick you up at the hotel and take you to the starting point on the Nam Khan River (approximately 40 minutes).
09:30: Safety briefing, then begin kayaking downstream (approximately 2–3 hours), with a stop at a riverside village.
Noon (12:15): Arrive at Tad Sae Waterfall and enjoy a picnic lunch.
Afternoon (13:15): Free time to swim at the waterfall and relax.
15:00: Take a boat across the river, then the vehicle takes you back to Luang Prabang. 16:30: Arrive at the hotel and end the tour.

Cancellation policy
Free cancellation with a 100% refund when notified at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellations made within 24 hours of departure are non-refundable. In the event of bad weather or attraction closures required by the authorities, we can help reschedule the tour or provide a full refund.

The standard tour is led by an English-speaking local guide; Vietnamese-, French-, Chinese-, or Thai-speaking guides can be requested (please inform us when booking, subject to guide availability).
The price is per person and applies to private tours for groups of 2 or more guests. Larger groups receive better rates; please contact us.
Visa: International visitors need a Laos visa (apply for an e-visa online before the trip or obtain a visa at international airports and international border crossings); citizens of ASEAN countries are visa-exempt in accordance with regulations. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months.
No kayaking experience is required, but guests should be able to swim at a basic level. When the river is too high (during the peak rainy season), the kayaking section may be shortened for safety reasons.
