Prek Toal is the core zone of the Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO) and is considered home to the largest waterbird population in Southeast Asia. During the dry season, thousands of rare birds, such as spot-billed pelicans, greater adjutants, Indian openbills, and Asian golden weavers, come here to nest in the canopies of flooded trees.
The journey begins early in the morning: a vehicle takes you to Chong Kneas Pier, where a motorboat crosses the vast Tonle Sap Lake to Prek Toal Floating Village—a place where the school, pagoda, and shops all float on the water. Here, you transfer to a small boat and travel deep into the sanctuary, then climb an observation tower with a ranger to watch the bird colonies.
The best season is from around December to April. This tour is ideal for nature lovers and wildlife photographers; binoculars and a telephoto lens are recommended.

Detailed itinerary
Morning (06:00): The vehicle and guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you to Chong Kneas pier. Enjoy a light breakfast on the boat.
07:00: The motorboat crosses Tonle Sap Lake to Prek Toal Floating Village (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes), with a visit to the village’s environmental center.
09:00: Transfer to a small boat to enter the sanctuary, then climb the observation tower with a ranger to watch the waterbirds.
Noon (12:00): Have lunch at a local family’s home in the floating village.
Afternoon (13:30): Explore the floating village: fish farms, a fish-paste workshop, and the floating school.
14:30: The boat returns to Chong Kneas pier. 17:00: Arrive back at the hotel, ending the tour.

Free cancellation with a 100% refund when notified at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellations made within 24 hours of departure are non-refundable. In the event of bad weather or attraction closures required by the authorities, we can help reschedule the tour or provide a full refund.

The tour is led by an English-speaking local guide by default; Vietnamese-, French-, Chinese-, Japanese-, and Korean-speaking guides can be requested (please inform us when booking, subject to guide availability).
The price applies per guest for private tours with groups of 2 or more guests. Larger groups receive better rates; please contact us.
Visa: international visitors need a Cambodian visa (apply for an e-visa online before the trip or obtain a visa at the border checkpoint/airport); citizens of ASEAN countries are visa-exempt. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months.
