Tour description
Sambor Prei Kuk is Cambodia’s largest pre-Angkor archaeological complex, once the capital of the Chenla kingdom, Isanapura, in the 7th century—approximately 500 years earlier than Angkor Wat. In 2017, it was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
The archaeological site comprises three main temple groups scattered throughout the forest: Prasat Sambor, Prasat Tao with its stone lion statues, and Prasat Yeai Poeun with unique octagonal brick towers, whose walls still feature bas-reliefs of 'flying palaces.' Many towers are embraced by tree roots, creating a tranquil atmosphere with almost no tourists.
Along the way, the tour stops at the 12th-century Kampong Kdei Stone Bridge (Spean Praptos)—one of the world’s longest ancient stone bridges, with Naga serpent balustrades. At noon, enjoy lunch at a community restaurant in Sambor village.
