Tour description
A 10-day itinerary for travelers who want to explore Laos beyond the familiar Vientiane – Luang Prabang route, at a moderate pace with diverse nature and cultural experiences.
You begin in Vientiane with Pha That Luang and Buddha Park, then take the high-speed train to Vang Vieng for kayaking, cave tubing, and mountain climbing with panoramic views. Next, spend three days in Luang Prabang, exploring its UNESCO World Heritage Old Town, witnessing the alms-giving ceremony, and visiting Pak Ou Caves and Kuang Si Falls. From Luang Prabang, travel by vehicle to Nong Khiaw, nestled among limestone mountains along the Nam Ou River, then cross the mountain pass to the Xieng Khouang Plateau to explore the mysterious Plain of Jars. The journey ends with a domestic flight from Phonsavan to Vientiane.
This is a private tour throughout, with local guides, private transportation, train tickets, and selected 3-star hotels.

Other notes
Alms-giving ceremony (Tak Bat): please keep your distance, remain silent, do not use flash photography, and do not block the monks’ route; if making an offering, it is best to buy sticky rice at a local market and kneel or sit lower than the monks.
Safety: some rural areas of Laos still contain unexploded ordnance (UXO) from wartime; always stay on marked paths and follow your guide’s instructions.
Dress code: when entering temples, the Royal Palace, and historical sites, please wear clothing that covers your shoulders and trousers/skirts below the knees, and remove your shoes before entering the main sanctuary.
Currency: the Lao kip (LAK) is the official currency; many places accept USD and Thai baht, but you should exchange some money into kip for spending at markets, small shops, and in rural areas.
The tour is normally led by an English-speaking local guide; Vietnamese-, French-, Chinese-, and Thai-speaking guides can be requested (please advise us when booking, subject to guide availability).
The price applies per guest, based on a private tour for groups of 2 or more guests. Larger groups receive better rates; please contact us.
Visa: international visitors need a Laos visa (apply for an e-visa online before the trip or obtain a visa at international airports and international border crossings); citizens of ASEAN countries are visa-exempt according to regulations. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months.
The Xieng Khouang – Vientiane flight does not operate daily; if no suitable flight is available, we will arrange private transportation and inform you in advance. The Nong Khiaw – Phonsavan route is a long mountain road.
