Tour description
The Laos–China Railway, inaugurated in 2021, has shortened the journey from Vientiane to Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang from several hours on winding mountain roads to only about 1 hour per leg, allowing you to comfortably explore the three most prominent destinations in northern Laos.
In Vientiane, visit Pha That Luang, Patuxai, and Wat Si Saket, and watch the sunset over the Mekong River. The train takes you to Vang Vieng for kayaking on the Nam Song River, tubing through a water cave, and swimming at Blue Lagoon amid limestone mountains. The final two days in Luang Prabang are devoted to the UNESCO-listed Old Town, the dawn alms-giving ceremony, Pak Ou Caves, and Kuang Si Falls.
This is a private tour with a guide at each destination, private transportation, second-class train tickets, and selected 3-star hotels.

Other notes
Alms-giving ceremony (Tak Bat): please keep your distance, remain silent, do not use flash photography, and do not block the monks’ path; if offering alms, it is best to buy sticky rice at the local market and kneel or sit lower than the monks.
Dress code: when entering temples, the Royal Palace, and historical sites, please wear clothing that covers your shoulders and trousers or skirts that extend below the knees, and remove your shoes before entering the main sanctuary.
Currency: the Kip (LAK) is the official currency; many places accept USD and Thai Baht, but you should exchange some Kip for spending at markets, small restaurants, and in rural areas.
The tour is led by an English-speaking local guide by default; Vietnamese-, French-, Chinese-, or Thai-speaking guides can be requested (please notify us when booking, subject to guide availability).
The price applies per guest for private tours with groups of 2 or more guests. Larger groups receive better rates; please contact us.
Visas: international travelers need a Laos visa (apply for an e-visa online before the trip or obtain a visa at international airports and international border crossings); ASEAN citizens are visa-exempt according to applicable regulations. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months.
High-speed train tickets are issued under the passenger’s name and passport number, usually go on sale only a few days in advance, and can sell out during peak season; please send your passport details as soon as you book the tour. Luggage on the train is subject to security screening similar to that at an airport.
