Tour description
Nam Ngum Lake was formed when the Nam Ngum Hydroelectric Dam was built in 1971. Today, it is a vast reservoir with hundreds of large and small forest-covered islands, located about 90 km from Vientiane. It is a popular weekend getaway for the capital’s residents.
The tour takes you on a long boat ride among the islands, where you can see fishermen’s floating houses and forests reflected on the calm surface of the lake. Lunch features freshly caught lake fish, grilled and prepared in Lao style, served at a floating restaurant. In the afternoon, you will have time to swim, fish, or relax.
On the way back, the vehicle stops at a roadside market selling dried fish, smoked fish, and agricultural products from local lakeside communities, followed by a visit to a viewpoint overlooking Nam Ngum Dam.
