Tour description
Sayaboury (Xayaboury) is known as the “elephant capital” of Laos, where most of the country’s domesticated elephants live and once worked in the logging industry. The elephant conservation center by Nam Tien Lake is a responsible conservation model, featuring an elephant hospital, a breeding program, and the reintroduction of elephants into protected forest areas.
The 3-day program gives you time to truly understand elephants: observe them feeding and bathing in the lake, walk with the herd into the forest alongside mahouts, visit the elephant hospital and talk with veterinarians, and learn about the lives of mahout communities. You spend the nights in a lakeside bungalow surrounded by nature.
A private vehicle takes you from Luang Prabang (approximately 3 hours), followed by a boat ride across the lake to the center. The tour does not include elephant riding.
