Tour description
Xieng Khuan, commonly known as Buddha Park, lies along the Mekong River about 25 km from central Vientiane. The park was built in 1958 by a monk and mystic who envisioned combining Buddhism and Hinduism, featuring more than 200 concrete statues: a reclining Buddha approximately 40 meters long, Shiva, Vishnu, Indra riding a three-headed elephant, and a giant three-story “pumpkin” symbolizing hell, earth, and heaven, which you can climb inside.
On the way back, stop at the first Lao–Thai Friendship Bridge and head into the city center to visit the Lao National Museum (Kaysone Phomvihane or the new museum, depending on opening hours), then stroll through Talat Sao Market, known for its silk, traditional textiles, and silver jewelry. The tour ends with a cup of Lao coffee brewed through a Vietnamese-style filter and poured over condensed milk at a local café.
