Tour description
Koh Ker was once the capital of the Khmer Empire under King Jayavarman IV (921–944), before the royal court returned to Angkor. Located deep in the forest about 120 km from Siem Reap, the archaeological site features dozens of brick and sandstone temples and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2023.
The highlight is Prasat Thom—a seven-tiered pyramid approximately 36 meters high, standing out amid the forest canopy and looking very different from the temples of Angkor. You will also visit Prasat Krahom (the Red Temple) and several small linga temples in the surrounding area.
On the way back, the tour stops at Beng Mealea—a 12th-century temple engulfed by the forest, where wooden walkways lead you through moss-covered piles of fallen stone.
This is a long day tour, but it is well worth it for archaeology and photography enthusiasts and anyone looking to escape the crowds.

Detailed itinerary
Morning (07:30): Your vehicle and guide will pick you up at your hotel and depart for Koh Ker (approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes), traveling along a road through the countryside and dipterocarp forests.
10:00: Arrive at Koh Ker and visit Prasat Krahom, featuring stone lion statues and a red brick tower gate, then continue to Prasat Thom – a seven-tiered pyramid (climb to the top via the wooden staircase when it is open).
Lunch (12:00): Have lunch at a local restaurant near the archaeological site.
Afternoon (13:00): Visit several smaller linga temples in Koh Ker, then travel to Beng Mealea (approximately 1 hour).
14:30: Explore Beng Mealea Temple, with its scenery of fallen stones and pristine forest.
16:00: Return to Siem Reap. 18:00: Arrive back at your hotel, concluding the tour.

Free cancellation with a 100% refund when notified at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellations made within 24 hours of departure are non-refundable. In the event of bad weather or attraction closures required by the authorities, we can help reschedule the tour or provide a full refund.

Dress code: when visiting temples, pagodas, and the Royal Palace, please wear clothing that covers your shoulders and long trousers/skirts below the knees; sports shoes are recommended because some sections have steep stone steps.
