Tour description
Three kilometers north of town, on the road leading to the temples, a plot of land fills up each evening with several hundred food stalls, plastic chairs, mats spread on the ground, and Khmer families. Street 60 Night Market has almost no foreign tourists. That is precisely what makes this tour special.
We take a tuk-tuk at dusk and eat our way through the market: charcoal-grilled marinated pork and chicken skewers, num pang pate baguettes, chive cakes fried on a flat griddle and dipped in sweet chili sauce, grilled bananas with coconut, and—if you wish, with no pressure—stalls selling fried tarantulas, crickets, and silkworm pupae, foods that Cambodians regard as ordinary beer snacks but visitors see as a challenge. Your guide will explain the real origins of insect eating, a story much more serious than the challenge version.
We return to town to enjoy the dish Cambodia is most proud of: fish amok, freshwater fish steamed in banana leaves with coconut, kroeung, and noni leaves until it sets like custard. We finish with palm sugar dessert and Cambodian iced coffee.
Small group, limited to 10 guests, including tuk-tuk transfers.
