Tour description
Angkor Wat faces west, so the afternoon is when sunlight fully illuminates the façade and bas-relief galleries, creating the best-lit photos of the day. Most visitors tour Angkor Wat in the morning after watching the sunrise, so the temple is usually less crowded in the afternoon.
Over approximately three hours, your guide will take you across the stone bridge over the moat and into famous bas-relief galleries such as the Churning of the Ocean of Milk, the Battle of Kurukshetra, Heaven and Hell, and up to the central Bakan tower if it is open.
As the sun drops lower, you will climb Phnom Bakheng Hill—the 9th-century mountain temple—to watch the sunset bathe the forest and the five towers of Angkor Wat in the distance in golden light. The number of visitors allowed to reach the summit of Bakheng is limited, and your guide will arrange the timing accordingly.
This tour is suitable for the afternoon of your arrival in Siem Reap; Angkor Passes purchased after 17:00 the previous day can be used the following day.
